Mikkel's Engagement
After learning from the Queen that some unknown person had entered Prince Mikkel into an engagement with the young human Princess Callandra of Pacifica, Mikkel, Ajay and Laralyn go to the capital of Pacifica, Franciton, to investigate.
Queen Mabin transports them to a pub there, the Muddy Rudder, owned by an ally named Toad. The next day, after discovering that the King of Pacifica has been deathly ill for some time, they make their way to the palace, disguising Mikkel and presenting themselves as envoys of the Queen of Silverwood. Once there the discover, as they suspected, that it was the false prince Michael who had entered into the arrangement, still believing that he was the true Mikkel. After questioning him and transporting him back to Silverwood, Mikkel takes the false prince's place at Pacifica and the trio begins to investigate what is happening.
After learning from the secret group of Pacifican nobles, calling themselves The Enclave that Crown Prince Adragon has been acting in his father's stead and steadily building up Pacifica's military, they begin to suspect that Adragon is behind his father's illness. Another suspect is the royal cleric Jareth, who is using illusion to hide his true appearance, and seems to be doing magic that should be beyond his ability.
After meeting with the young princess and forming a friendship, their distrust of both Adragon and Jareth deepens. They also learn that the princess has some Fae blood, and potentially very powerful with Fae magic.
Several assassination attempts follow, as the culprit realizes that Ajay and Mikkel could ruin their plans. First three suits of animated armor attack in Ajay's quarters, which the duo are able to put down. Then a Rug of Smothering is used to trap Ajay, but he manages to escape and destroy it. Finally, which Ajay staying in Mikkel's quarters, they are attacked by a Flameskull.
That same night the King's health weakens dramatically, and Princess Callandra comes to ask Ajay's help. Ajay manages to heal King Francea and lift the curse that had been affecting him. Suspecting the cleric Jareth, a search begins, with Mikkel finding him in a secret room preparing to leave. As Mikkel attempts to take Jareth into custody, Adragon arrives - as it turns out, the cleric was carrying out the orders of Adragon, his co-conspirator. Adragon and Mikkel fight, with Mikkel trying not to kill his fellow prince, and after Ajay's arrival they manage to subdue both him and the cleric.
King Francea restricts his son to his chambers and imprisons the cleric, but the next morning Adragon is missing and Jareth is found murdered in his cell. The King strips Adragon of his position and names Callandra as his new heir. A grateful King thanks Mikkel, Ajay, and Laralyn for their help, and the trio return to Silverwood.
